If you are wondering how or what all these funny files (more listed below) are sitting on your c:\ or other drive, then you will be please to know that they were generated as temporary files by a Visual C++ redistributable install package. Unfortunately the package does not clean them up afterwards.
If they are not on your c:\ drive, that because the installer actually looks for the drive with the most available space or something like that!
Any of the following files can be safely removed.

Nicholas, thanks for posting your informative comment on being able to delete VC_RED files and the other temporary files you’ve mentioned above, it was appreciated 🙂
thanks so much!!
Thank you so much! I thought they were system files and thus didn’t touch my 100GB drive…
I wish Microsoft would behave properly. Many time I notice that they do not use the TMP folder but randomly scatter files about. Also, they always leave the registry in a mess!
Thank you very much! I thought it had to do with virus or something
It may seem like not-such-of-a-big-deal, but it is articles like this, those that very quickly clarify a puzzle and provide the solution that make me just wanna shout “Hooray!” Instead of looking thru multiple search results and still not knowing for certain what to do (yep – that’s what I was expecting) one lucidly written and very believable page says it all. Thank You
